JOKO
West-African Drum & Dance Company
Standing Together for Peace
JOKO means TOGETHERNESS
In Baba Fode Sissoko’s West-African Tribal language, the purpose of JOKO means we all do it together, in the name of the ancestors we are always together. JOKO provides education of West-African culture and tradition through dance and music with the mission of gathering all differences to one understanding of love. JOKO believes the vibration of the drum will spread harmony across the world and peace will prevail through the voice of the ancestors: In the name of all our goodness ever called for in the name of togetherness for peace.
JOKO provides performances, education and ceremonies for all occasions of life. JOKO stands for peace always prevailing.
JOKO was founded by a Mansa Jali, Master drummer and choreographer, composer and singer Baba Fode Sissoko, the grand-son of the King of the Mansa Jalis, the King of all the Griots.
Baba Fode grew up in the last home of our ancestors: Gore Islands. Since the age of 5 he has been traveling between Africa, Europe and the United States performing and educating through the West-African oral tradition and culture. For 34 years he has been enstoring peace between people, incarnating through the vibration of music and dance in the name of our ancestors: retrieving and connecting the ancestors’ purpose with the families who have been taken from Gore Islands’ last door of no return, over 300 years of African Descendants’ lost history, identity, language and families.
Providing you the greatest gift of JOKO INTERNATIONAL in Los Angeles, California for collaboration and togetherness, and the way to connect with our ancestors, giving them back what has been taken from so many generations: the Truth of Africa, the real identity of Africans. Baba Fode, as a 222 generation of Malinke Jali, holds the prophecy of the identity of Africans and the true oral culture of Africa that has never been written down - only passed from family to family, generation to generation - and well been protected.

“Come together as one nation to put goodness to the new generation. To the whole world of goodness that the highly almighty created. The drum and the music, will show us the path of togetherness. Coming together at once to enstore peace.”
